Air shaft, also known as an inflatable shaft, is a type of mechanical device used for storing, transporting, and handling rolls of materials such as paper, plastic film, fabrics, or similar products. It works by expanding or contracting based on the presence or absence of gas inside a rubber or plastic layer that surrounds the central axis. When gas is introduced into the layer, it inflates and increases the diameter of the shaft, securely holding the roll; when the gas is released, the shaft contracts, facilitating the removal and replacement of the roll.

Air shafts are widely utilized in various industries including packaging, printing, textiles, electronics, among others. They are particularly beneficial in production lines where frequent changes to different sized rolls are necessary, enhancing operational efficiency and reducing downtime. Compared to fixed-diameter shafts, air shafts offer high flexibility, easy installation and disassembly, and contribute to minimizing periods of inactivity.
